Prof Mutuma Mugambi trained as a doctor at the University of East Africa (Makerere). He later did a PhD in neurophysiology at University College, London and later specialized in Cardiology at Universita di Roma.
He has served as professor at the University of Nairobi and Kenya Methodist University. He was a Consultant Cardiologist at the Kenyatta National Hospital supporting the open heart surgery programme. Later, Prof Mugambi served as the Director of the prestigious Kenya Medical Research Institute and more recently as Vice Chancellor of Kenya Methodist University. He has authored over forty scientific publications and has consulted widely for WHO, SIDA, CIDA, World Bank, COHRED etc.
He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He also has received two Presidentiai awards (DSM, MBS) for distinguished service. Prof Mugambi also serves in the Board of SOS Childrens Villages.
