Project Officer - Maanisha

The Maanisha Programme is a community focused initiative of AMREF in Kenya.  It aims at sustained reduction in HIV incidence, reduced HIV – related mortality and morbidity, and social protection of HIV infected and affected people.  “Maanisha” is a Swahili word that means “giving meaning to”.  The programme aims at giving meaning to the war against HIV/AIDS in Kenya by working with more than 700 civil society organisations in partnership with NACC, ministries of health and other government ministries in four provinces of Kenya. The programme seeks to recruit a Project Officer reporting to the Capacity Building Manager.

Purpose of the Job

To provide technical expertise and support programme activities and implementation of the programme strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and participate in planning and implementation of project activities
  • Develop a detailed implementation plan for the project in consultation with the Capacity Building Manger and National AIDS Control Council (NACC)
  • Facilitate review and publication of capacity building toolkits
  • Facilitate orientation and training of Regional Facilitating Agencies (RFAs) on OrganiSational Development Systems Strengthening (ODSS) and capacity building in liaison with the Capacity Building Manager and NACC
  • Provide technical support to RFAs on capacity assessment and capacity building of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs)
  • Support development of relevant reporting tools for RFAs; conduct monitoring and quality assurance of the NACC capacity building project
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports relating to the project as per donor requirements
  • Work closely with the Capacity Building Manager and NACC to document best practices/ success stories in capacity building for HIV interventions

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should have a first degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Project Management or its equivalent. S/he should have at least three years hands on experience in health promotion field especially in HIV/AIDS programmes; hands on experience in activity implementation, capacity building of CSOs, organisational development, capacity assessment, experience in working with and understanding of NACC structures and TOWA project. S/he should have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be a team player with the ability to work under minimum supervision.
