Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant

The Maanisha Programme is a community focused initiative of AMREF in Kenya.  It aims at sustained reduction in HIV incidence, reduced HIV – related mortality and morbidity, and social protection of HIV infected and affected people.  “Maanisha” is a Swahili word that means “giving meaning to”.  The programme aims at giving meaning to the war against HIV/AIDS in Kenya by working with more than 700 civil society organisations in partnership with NACC, ministries of health and other government ministries in four provinces of Kenya. The programme seeks to recruit a Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant reporting to the Capacity Building Manager.

Purpose of the Job

Assist to develop and implement an effective monitoring and evaluation plan for the Project.  The M&E Assistant will compile periodic project reports and ensure monitoring tools are developed and updated regularly.  The incumbent will conduct training and support project staff on M&E and identify priority areas of concern on the quality of M&E related data and inform the project implementation team for action. Regular documentation of processes, challenges and lessons learnt will be a vital function for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • In liaison with M&E Officer and the ICT team, take lead in establishment of Management Information System (MIS) for the capacity building programme and take lead in data capture and reporting
  • In liaison with the NACC team, develop M&E tools and reporting templates for tracking progress of Regional Facilitating Agencies (RFAs)
  • In liaison with M&E Officer, support the revision of the project log frame and assist in  tracking the progress towards its implementation
  • In liaison with the NACC team, support review of RFAs work plans, targets and indicators
  • Provide technical support to RFAs on M&E during project implementation
  • In liaison with the NACC team, take lead in program reviews and evaluation
  • Support project implementation team to document and disseminate lessons learnt and best practices.

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should have a first degree in Statistics, Social Sciences or its equivalent. Professional training in M&E and at least three years of relevant work experience; experience in the use of statistical analysis packages - STATA; SPSS, Epi info.  Excellent quantitative and qualitative skills, excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and a team player.
