We are looking for an organised, highly motivated and results oriented individual to join a dynamic team and help bring better health through the Laboratory Public Health Strengthening Project funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through Management for Health Science (MSH). The Project aims at strengthening public health laboratory systems in Kenya.The position reports to the Laboratory Manager and is based in Nairobi.
Purpose of the Job
To provide technical expertise and support project activities and implementation of the project strategy.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Facilitate the development and strengthening of laboratory systems within the Ministries of Health.
- Support in the implementation of National Equipment Management Policy.
- Support implementation and strengthening of National Laboratory Quality Assurance systems.
- Working closely with the relevant MOH departments, partners and stakeholders in the implementation of project activities.
- Participate in capacity building activities, field visits and meetings with relevant partners and stakeholders, including the development and evaluation of health learning materials.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports relating to the project; assist in preparation of annual proposal and progress reports as per donor requirements.
- Provide technical and scientific support in development and writing of concepts and proposals, for research and documentation of activities.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating of project activities. Support in routine diagnostic testing at AMREF’s Central Laboratory.
Qualifications and Competencies
The candidate should have as a minimum Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science.At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in a busy research and clinical/laboratory environment. Experience of working with the Ministries of Health and training of health workers will be an added advantage. Must be ICT proficient. Have excellent interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritise duties and work under minimal supervision.
