Assistant Accountant
Reporting to the Project Accountant, the incumbent shall be responsible for providing general accounting support and will be based in Nairobi.
Specific areas of responsibility will include:
- Assisting in preparation of proposal and operational budgets
- Assisting in treasury management and cash flow planning
- Supporting line managers in budget implementation and monitoring
- Accurate coding payment vouchers and files for data processing and/or payment
- Reconciling all control and balance sheet accounts under own management and clear all reconciling items periodically
- Preparing relevant invoices to various clients for payments and maintain debtors’ accounts
- Updating data in the Sun System
- Reconciling suppliers’ statements against ledger statements monthly and liaising with the respective suppliers in a bid to clear any reconciling items
- Ensuring appropriate internal controls through adherence to the accounting policies and procedures
- Reviewing field returns to ensure that they are in line with the budgets as well as policies and procedures
- Preparation of PAYE annual returns
- Maintenance of fixed assets register
- Monthly preparation of internal recharges/recoveries
- Making statutory payment within deadlines
The ideal candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Commerce (Accounting Option) with at least CPA II. At least two (2) years relevant professional experience in an NGO. Experience in payroll administration is an added advantage.
The Candidate should have high level of honesty, integrity and confidentiality. In addition the ideal candidate must have Sound IT knowledge; word processing, spreadsheets, databases and SUN Accounting system with excellent communication skills both written and oral and be a team player.
